Karl Freiherr von Bothmer., born in 1818 in Hannover, in the castle of Eickhoff. After graduation from the University of Goettingen and Forestry Academy of Clausthal, he was prepared serve as a Court Hunt Master. In 1848 joined Austrian Imperial Army in Italy as a volunteer and took part in the Italian campaign as a Lieutenant of Imperial Ulan Regiment Nr. 4. During the Hungarian campaign of 1849, was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown, 3rd Class, for his outstanding bravery demonstrated during the Battle at Raab. After the above campaign devoted himself to the management of his estate he acquired in Hungary. During the war of 1849, as Lieutenant-Captain of Imperial Infantry Regiment Nr. 14, took part in Solferino battle and by the end of the campaign was given the rank of Captain. During the years of 1863/64, he served in the Army of the United States of America as Captain at the Headquarters of General Rosenkranz and was awarded the Certificate of Bravery by the US President. In 1866, he served as a Lieutenant of Imperial Graf Radetzky Hussar Regiment Nr. 5. From 1870 to 1874, he was a Reserve Captain of the Royal Hungarian Honved-Hussars. Freiherr von Bothmer died on March 11, 1886 in Tur-Terebes in Hungary.
